ข้อมูลพื้นฐาน




แผ่นดินไหว วันที่ 12 พฤษภาคม 2551 ในประเทศจีน




ขนาด 7.9 ริกเตอร์ เวลา 06:28:00 UTC มีจุดศูนย์กลางที่ตำแหน่ง 31.099 องศาเหนือ 103.279 องศาตะวันออก ที่ความลึก 10 กิโลเมตร (ข้อมูลจากสำนักสำรวจธรณีวิทยา สหรัฐอเมริกา หรือ USGS) โดยห่างจากกรุงเทพมหานครประมาณ 1,200 กิโลเมตร สามารถรับความรู้สึกได้ในตึกและอาคารสูงของกรุงเทพมหานคร แผ่นดินไหวครั้งนี้เกิดในบริเวณแนวเทือกเขาด้านตะวันตกเฉียงเหนือของเมืองเฉิงตูประมาณ 92 กิโลเมตร ตัวเมืองเฉิงตูตั้งอยู่ในบริเวณที่ราบที่เกิดจากตะกอนน้ำพา (Alluvial fan) ในแอ่งเสฉวน (Sichuan Basin) การไหวสะเทือนครั้งนี้ไม่มีสัญญานเตือนมาก่อนหรือกล่าวได้ว่า ไม่มีการไหวก่อนที่จะเกิดการไหวสะเทือนครั้งใหญ่ (Foreshock) และข้อมูลล่าสุดเมื่อวันที่ 14 พฤษภาคม 2551 พบแผ่นดินไหวที่เกิดขึ้น (Aftershock) กว่า 25 ครั้งโดยมีขนาดตั้งแต่ 4.4 ถึง 6 ริกเตอร์

การไหวสะเทือนครั้งใหญ่ครั้งนี้ (Mainshock) จัดได้ว่าเกิดในระดับตื้น (Shallow earthquake) ซึ่งเคยเกิดมาแล้วเมื่อปี ค.ศ. 1995 ที่เมืองโกเบ ประเทศญี่ปุ่น ขนาด 6.8 ริกเตอร์ มีจุดศูนย์กลางที่ความลึกประมาณ 16 กิโลเมตร แต่ความเสียหายล่าสุดประเมินว่า แผ่นดินไหวในมณฑลเสฉวนครั้งนี้มีความสูญเสียมากกว่าที่โกเบ

ข้อมูลก่อนและหลังการเกิดแผ่นดินไหวที่ประเทศจีน

หากติดตามข้อมูลแผ่นดินไหวก่อนเหตุการณ์ในประเทศจีน พบว่าเมื่อวันที่ 7 พฤษภาคม 2551 ได้เกิดแผ่นดินไหวในทะเลนอกชายฝั่งเกาะฮอนชู ประเทศญี่ปุ่น ด้วยขนาด Mainshock 6.8 ริกเตอร์ โดยมี Foreshock ก่อน 2 ครั้ง เมื่อเวลา 16.02 น และ 16.16 น ด้วยขนาด 6.1 และ 6.2 ริกเตอร์ และหลังจาก Mainshock ได้เกิด Aftershock อีกประมาณ 4-5 ครั้ง ด้วยขนาด 4.2 ถึง 5.2 ริกเตอร์ ด้วยว่าแผ่นดินไหวในญี่ปุ่นครั้งนี้เกิดนอกชายฝั่ง ประเทศญี่ปุ่นได้แจ้งให้มีการเฝ้าระวังภัยจากสึนามิ


ข้อมูลล่าสุดเมื่อวันที่ 13 พฤษภาคม 2551 เวลา 10:29:19 UTC ได้เกิดแผ่นดินไหวบริเวณนอกชายฝั่งตอนเหนือของเกาะสุมาตรา ใกล้เคียงกับตำแหน่งแผ่นดินไหวที่ก่อให้เกิด สึนามิเมื่อปี 2547 โดยมีขนาด 5.4 ริกเตอร์ ที่ความลึก 35 กิโลเมตร อย่างไรก็ตาม ไม่มีรายงานความเสียหายและโอกาสเกิดสึนามิ
